Cheers and welcome to my new blog page. Finally!, I hit return and got the blog page going.
Here you will find all new content to accompany this not so new and restyled website.
There will, hopefully, be an engaging and eclectic mix of topics all of which will loosely be based around image creation and storytelling. I’ll make no apologies for self-indulgence of things I hold dear on my part, or of sharing my opinions. On opinions, I’ll go with Anthony Bourdain who said “I always entertain the notion that I'm wrong, or that I'll have to revise my opinion. Most of the time that feels good; sometimes it really hurts and is embarrassing”.
Some of you will know that my in-person photo school training has gone from strength-to-strength since I started the school in association with Puzzlewood back in 2009. Since then, I have, hopefully, helped many photographers of all skills and abilities not just to improve their technique but also to enjoy what they are doing. To cast off the burden of having any thought at all to who may or may not like their creative output. Drop any sense at all that the "correct exposure" even exists as a concept. And, to set aside any notion of rules or conventions. Instead, to get on and just experiment and be as creative as you, as an individual, can be.
I've lost count of the hours I have spent unravelling the toxic mix of jargon, inaccurate factual information and persuasive marketing threads. And my reward has been the dawning of recognition, the awakening of the creative process in another human being and the kick starting of the joy and reward that comes with the rejection of unnecessary conventions to free the inner creative beast within.
I abide by few "rules" of photography but there is one rule on which I will not compromise. My first rule - "it is meant to be fun!" At whatever level you may operate, never forget you do this because you love it....
